Hello & Thank You for Visiting the Garden Guru website!
I hope this finds you and your plants surviving monsoon season. When I think of monsoon season, I think free water!! However, there has only been a couple of weeks I was able to turn off my sprinkler system, therefore, I have had to continue watering much of my landscape. It is important not to overwater during this time of year so turn off your sprinkler system and save water and maybe your plants! This is the time of year I find myself cleaning out my gardens to prepare them for the fall planting season, which is just around the corner. This is also a good time of year to repot your plants into the next size container.
Remember, I am available to assist you with all your garden needs no matter how small!

Thanks for the reminder about preparing for the fall planting. We’re starting to clear out…clean up garden areas too. A question maybe you can help with – this last year, the garden has been taken over (like never before) by a kind of weed that crawls along the ground. We try to dig it out by the roots, but it just keeps coming back. Do you have any suggestions for how to deal with this in a non-toxic way?
Hi Shoshanna, It sounds like spurge! You are doing exactly what should be done, mechanically removing the weed with its root system. I am not familiar with anything that would be any more effective and non-toxic. When removing weeds it is important to do so before they go to seed, which helps to reduce later infestations.
As always thank you for your great questions.

Hi Diane,
I need to transplant 2 large sago palms. What kind of soil should I buy? Fertilizer?
Thanks, Kathy
Hi Kathy and thank you for your question. You want a quick draining soil with the ability to hold some water. I have found a bag mix from desert winds cacti/succulent mixture is a good buy. I do add either vermiculite or small amount of clay to help hold a little moisture. Cycas need partial shade here with regular water in the drier season, they are relatives of conifers. Not 100% on the fertilizer. Depends on if you have granular or water soluble.
